Metta
Kindness as a practice
Metta is kindness as a practice.
You wish well in circles: yourself, your people, strangers, the ones who drive you mad. Regularly, like sets in a gym. With no expectation of return.
Every morning I sat and went through everyone in turn. You start with yourself: may I be happy, healthy and free from fear. Then the close ones. Then people you barely know. Last — the ones you dislike: happiness, peace and ease to them too. They are the hardest — and that’s where the biggest shift lives.
A week of metta started my last transition: I understood the loving has to come from me. At whatever. Just like that. Pet a cat. The peat caught — all that’s left is fanning the little flame.
Loving kindness is a real reference point — a lighthouse for every situation. Train it, and things start happening right.
Say something good to another — you fill yourself.
