Buddhism
Liberation as technology
Buddhism is a manual for how the mind suffers and how to stop it. Positive psychology from ancient times.
The Buddha said: don’t take my word for it, check for yourself. Once you start checking, it turns out there’s nothing to believe in. Buddhism is a blueprint. Follow its precepts and you become who you were meant to be. You unfold from the inside and finally fill the shape you were always meant to take.
I just wanted to learn how to meditate properly, and ended up finding the answer to how to live.
The whole of Buddhism: suffering is inevitable, but it isn’t real. And the whole path is to live without messing anything up. The path is called dharma. The way out of the wheel is nirvana.
Paying attention to whatever is happening is mindfulness meditation.
— Robert Wright, Why Buddhism Is True
Buddhism gives you the foundation, the instructions. It’s a technology for freeing the mind. The method works.
The last mile you’ll have to walk yourself.
Start with one book. Sit with your eyes closed. Watch the thoughts in your head.
