Your brain settles the decision before you know about it. What you call choosing is the story told afterwards, fitted to what already happened.
Harris takes that seriously and follows it all the way out. If the thought that moved you arrived on its own, there is no author standing behind it to blame or to congratulate.
Responsibility survives this. What doesn’t survive is the hatred you keep for yourself over what you did — and the pride that runs on the same fuel.
