The body is a spacesuit — a bulldozer chewing through the bedrock of reality, turning food into energy. The mind is its onboard computer. It reads the sensors, produces images and thoughts, explains what’s happening in familiar terms. Thoughts, like a stomach ache, are not your decision.

We watch our life on the inner screen of the spacesuit. It feels like you’re doing everything yourself, but the suit decides for you. Its thoughts you count as your own.

We are not lost sinners in a correctional facility — we are the source of consciousness, wearing an astronaut suit to explore reality from the inside.

The suit can be steered by a single thought. Decide something — it does the rest by itself. You can decide as many times as you want.

But the moment you stop deciding, the autopilot kicks in.
