Speak about yourself
Where real conversation starts
We’re adults. We don’t talk about problems — we just go silent for three days and then reply with a “:)”.
A real conversation starts when you start talking about yourself. Everything else is topics: news, other people’s business, excuses. You talk with someone, and they say nothing about themselves — and it gets a little sad.
Talking, you find out what’s going on with you.
Opening up is the biggest inner work there is. It takes years: the fear of rejection is one of the strongest there is. For real, when you talk about yourself, you send signals to your people. Find your people.
Once I stopped lying, especially to myself, I stopped doing things I couldn’t talk about.
Speak about yourself. The ones you can do this with are your people.
